THE BARBERRY FAMILY (Berberidaceae)
Most members of this family are shrubs and the majority grow in the northern temperate zones of middle and central Europe, Asia and North America. Berberis and Mahonia are two examples that have become popular garden shrubs in Europe and in some areas they have become naturalised.
Flowers are small, radially symmetrical and grow in clusters. Fruits are usually berries.
