SAINT JOHN’S WORT FAMILY (Hypericaceae)
This is a relatively small family of plants including herbaceous perennials, annuals, trees, bushes and even a few climbers (lianas). They are distinguished by possessing glandular structures on both leaves and flowers that exude various secretions.
Leaves are commonly of simple shape (not indented), arranged in opposite pairs and the secretary glands may form patches, spots, lines or be arranged along the margins.
The flowers are radially symmetrical, 5-merous (rarely 4-merous), the petals arranged alternately to the sepals, stamens arranged in bundles giving the impression of many in the centre of a wide open flower.
